HONORING THE LEGACY OF LOVE OF MOTHER MARY BETH KENNDY

RECOGNIZING AUGUST AS   HUMAN KINDNESS

Mother Kennedy was a woman that truly believed “Love could change the world.” She lived this every day of her life and has a legacy that has touched people around the world. We honor her legacy on August 14th on what would be her 99th Birthday. Our wish is for people to expand their capacity for human kindness and help continue her legacy of changing the world through Love.

Her legacy of love continues through the women and men that come to Community of Caring. Community of Caring provides shelter, food, clothing, case management and hope to both men and women. People coming to Community of Caring seeking safe shelter often only have the clothes they are wearing. The men and women that come to COC have experienced a series of traumatic events prior to the trauma of homelessness. It has always been the mission of Community of Caring to assist whenever we can in a caring way.

In the current times of unprecedented numbers of homeless people, not just in Erie County but across the country, and the anxiousness people feel about what they see and hear in the news, it is so important to remind people to recommit to doing what they can to show human kindness.

Proclamations were presented to Community of Caring from Governor Shapiro, Mayor Joe Schember and State Representatives Pat Harkins, Bob Merski and Ryan Bizzaro. Click the images below to view them in full size.

According to Mayor Schember “The need for kindness is greater than ever in today’s world.  I encourage businesses, civic and service organizations, as well as all residents to join the City of Erie in supporting kindness and empathy and expand their capacity for human kindness.”
